UAP Clinic Announces Plans for New Medical Office Building

Terre Haute, December 8, 2011 - After more than two years of planning and discussion, Union Associated Physicians Clinic has begun construction of a new medical office building on the campus of Union Hospital. The official groundbreaking for the new facility will take place on Thursday, December 8, 2011. The project will take 18 months to complete and will cost approximately $20 million.

"The new UAP Clinic facility will be a tremendous asset for the residents of the Wabash Valley," said CEO Patrick Board. "Not only will it be a state-of-the-art facility for providing better outpatient medical care to patients, it will also allow our physicians to provide more timely care to patients at Union Hospital, both inpatients and those who come through the emergency department. For over 95 years, UAP Clinic has been committed to providing quality primary and specialty medical care in the Wabash Valley and this new facility represents our commitment to sustain the commitment into the future."

The four-floor, 125,000-square-foot medical office building, located south of Eighth Avenue and west of the Landsbaum Center for Medical Education, will be the new practice location for physicians in the specialties of Allergy/Asthma/Immunology, Cardiology, ENT, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Pulmonology/Critical Care/Sleep Medicine and Urology. Additional patient care services that will be provided include: audiology, cardiovascular testing, imaging, laboratory and pharmacy, complete with drive-up window.

Dr. Shantilal Patel, a cardiologist at UAP Clinic for 30 years had this to say about the new building: "The proximity of this medical office building to Union Hospital will facilitate care of cardiac patients. Heart attack patients will be treated in a very timely manner. This endeavor will make our busy inpatient, as well as our outpatient, cardiology practice more efficient and will definitely save us time. Our patients will find this new location convenient, modern and spacious. Overall, this project will enhance this modern, state-of-the-art, tertiary healthcare complex. We are certainly very excited."

The majority of the specialties that will be located in the new medical office building are currently located at the Clinic's Downtown and Union Professional Office Building locations.  UAP Clinic will continue to maintain pediatrics and family practice at the Downtown Clinic after the new facility opens, but will no longer have services at the professional building.  All other current UAP locations will remain as they are today

"We're excited that UAP Clinic has chosen the Union Hospital campus as the home for their new medical office building. Union Hospital continues to expand and develop our facilities to provide better access to exceptional healthcare, attract top-quality providers to the area and educate our community's future healthcare professionals," said Scott Teffeteller, Union Hospital President and CEO.

The general contractor for the project is a joint-venture between Garmong Construction Services and Thompson Thrift. CSO Architects, an Indianapolis-based firm with extensive experience in healthcare, designed the building. Local subcontractors and union laborers are being used to complete the project.
